If you are among the 21,000 new residents discussed in our previous post, you may have recently been hearing hype around Seafair. For Seattle natives, Seafair has been a tradition since 1950, and has come to be something of a Seattle holiday. The ten-week long event promotes the reputation Seattle has earned as the Boating Capital of the World with over 75 affordable, community friendly events. Just down the street from the Ironwood office, Green Lake holds a significance in the history of Seafair being the first site of the infamous boat races and the main reason for the construction of the Aqua Theater. With over two million people joining in the festivities, the boat races have since been moved to Lake Union and kick off Seafair Weekend on August 4th. Though the community can still share in a piece of Green Lake history by attending the Greenwood Seafair Parade on July 26th.
